Nope, this is NOT the peace sign.

Americans have been deprived of this particularly satisfying gesture that has been known to bring much pleasure to the Brits, Australians and New Zealanders. Having a similar connotation to our middle-finger solute (including "Up Yours"), but with an added element of defiance, the gesture is made by raising both the middle and index fingers and - here's the important part - facing the palm toward yourself. (With the Peace sign, the palm faces outward.) The hand may then be moved up and down for added effect.

Britain's wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill was known to hold up his two fingers, displaying both the front and back of the palm. Some say he didn't know any better; others say Churchill was very much aware of the meaning of both. We say we would really enjoy it if the latter were correct. How great to have a gesture with such ambiguity - at least here in the U.S. - that you can insult your enemy without them even knowing it -and plead ignorance if necessary. "I just wanted to wish you world peace, bro."
